2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number that connects people with important community services and volunteer opportunities.
While services that are offered through 2-1-1 vary from community to community, 2-1-1 provides callers with information about and referrals to human services for every day needs and in times of crisis. For example, 2-1-1 can offer access to the following types of services:

The New Jersey 2-1-1 Partnership is leading the 2-1-1 planning efforts in New Jersey. Visit the NJ 2-1-1 Partnership website. The mission of the New Jersey 2-1-1 Partnership is to provide New Jersey residents with a single, easy-to-use system to obtain information on health and human services, volunteer opportunities and giving. The New Jersey 2-1-1 Partnership represents an alliance of providers of information and referral services. These providers have joined together to design and implement a comprehensive statewide collaborative so that every New Jersey resident has immediate access to health and human services information to assist in meeting his/her needs. The NJ 2-1-1 Partnership is in the process of incorporating as a 501(c)3, as a subsidiary of United Ways of New Jersey. |
About the national 2-1-1 initiative . . . The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assigned 2-1-1 on July 21, 2000, stating: "We find that the Information & Referral Petitioners have demonstrated sufficient public benefits to justify use of a scarce public resource and we therefore assign 211 to be used for access to community information and referral services."
